THW

The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief, or Technische Hilfswerk (THW), is the civil defence and disaster relief organisation of the Federal Republic of Germany. It has been providing technical assistance in Germany and abroad for more than 70 years. As a volunteer-based agency of some 88,000 operatives within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, it has a unique structure.

Organisation

The Technische Hilfswerk (THW) is the volunteer-based operational civil protection organisation of the Federal Republic of Germany and is situated within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. The THW pursues a legal mandate outlined in the THW Act.
