Full-time staff – tasks

The tasks of the full-time staff of the Technische Hilfswerk (THW) are diverse: be it the Inland Division, which deals with the coordination and control of operations within Germany, the Press and Public Relations Division, which recruits volunteers for the THW by running new marketing campaigns, for example, or the Research Division, which conducts research relevant to the emergency services, civil protection and disaster relief, including the use of drones and artificial intelligence (AI).

At 66 Regional Offices, eight State Associations, three training centres, and the THW Headquarters, there are more than 2,100 employees and numerous Federal Volunteer Service members working to keep the volunteer-based civil protection organisation running. Their motivation is always to support and improve the work of the volunteers.

Fields of responsibility

The areas of responsibility of the full-time staff are as broad as the operational options of the THW itself. They include the development of training concepts, recruiting new staff and operatives, vehicle procurement and central administration.
