Under the slogan “playfully learning to help”, THW youth work focuses on conveying a readiness to help, teamwork and age-appropriate technical expertise. Children from the age of six can join THW Youth, where trained instructors help them discover and develop their enthusiasm for using technical equipment to help others. Imparting this expertise is, of course, one priority, but it is just as important to ensure the young members enjoy an active and social leisure activity.
One particular highlight of the year is the National Youth Camp, which takes place at a different location in Germany each year. For one week, young people in the THW from all over Germany come together to share their enthusiasm for helping others and for technical equipment, taking part in excursions, workshops and other activities.
An open mind, tolerance, team spirit and a willingness to help: these are the basic principles of community in the youth section of the THW, too. For this reason, opportunities are offered to develop friendships beyond national borders, including work camps and international youth exchanges. For many years there has been an intensive exchange with partner organisations in Iceland, Italy, Poland, Russia and the Czech Republic.
